Why Wi-Fi matters more than infrared
Current iPhones do not include a general-purpose infrared blaster. Remote Control IQ talks to the television through its network interface instead. The range is your local Wi-Fi coverage, and the phone does not need to point at the TV.
This also explains the main limitation: a non-smart TV or a device on another network cannot receive the commands. A guest Wi-Fi that isolates clients may block the app even when the network names look related.
Give iOS local-network access
The first scan triggers an iOS Local Network permission. Choose Allow so the app can find TVs in your home. If permission was denied, open iOS Settings, Privacy & Security, Local Network, and enable Universal TV Remote Control IQ.
The permission does not expose your network to a remote server. It lets the app communicate with nearby devices such as the TV you select.
Use automatic discovery or the TV IP address
Automatic discovery is the easiest route. If a supported television does not advertise itself, find its IP address in the TV's network settings and use the manual connection option.
An IP address can change after a router restart. If a previously saved TV stops responding, forget it, scan again and save the current connection.
