Before you connect
Connect the iPhone and Roku to the same Wi-Fi name. A guest network may look similar but block communication between devices. The Roku must also allow control by mobile apps. On Roku, open Settings, System, Advanced system settings, Control by mobile apps, then Network access.
Choose Default or Permissive if your network is trusted. If Network access is Disabled, a Roku remote app cannot send commands even when discovery finds the device.
Controls and Roku channels
Remote Control IQ provides Roku navigation, home, back, playback and other commands supported by the device. The Apps tab can load the channels installed on a connected Roku and launch one without searching through the TV home screen.
Private listening and the headphone-jack behavior of certain physical Roku remotes are not part of this app. Volume support also depends on the Roku model and how the TV and streaming device are configured.
If the Roku does not appear
Wake the Roku, verify its current network under Settings, Network, About, and compare it with the Wi-Fi shown on the iPhone. Then allow Local Network access for Remote Control IQ in iOS Settings.
If automatic discovery still fails, enter the Roku IP address shown on its About screen. Restarting the Roku and router can clear stale network records, but changing the network-access setting is usually more important than reinstalling the app.
Pair with Roku
- Enable mobile control
On Roku, make sure Control by mobile apps is not disabled.
- Open Remote Control IQ
Allow local-network access when iOS asks for it.
- Choose the Roku
Select it from discovered devices or enter its IP address.
- Test Home
Press Home or an arrow. If it responds, open Apps to load installed Roku channels.
Common questions
Can I control Roku without the original remote?
Yes, if the Roku is already connected to the same Wi-Fi and mobile-app control is allowed. If the Roku has never joined the network, you may need a physical remote first.
Why can the app see Roku but not control it?
Check Roku's Control by mobile apps setting. Network access must not be Disabled.
Does this work with Roku TV?
It works with compatible Roku TVs and Roku players. Available power and volume commands vary by model.
