What “universal” means in this app
Remote Control IQ is universal across supported smart-TV platforms, not every television ever made. It connects to compatible Roku, Samsung, LG webOS, Android TV and Google TV devices. A traditional television with no network connection will still need an infrared or physical remote.
The app sends commands through your local Wi-Fi. That removes the need for an infrared blaster and lets you use familiar controls such as navigation, home, playback, volume, channels and input. The exact set is decided by the television, so a button available on one platform may not be offered by another.
When a phone remote is most useful
A remote app is a practical backup when the original remote is lost or out of batteries. It is also useful for text and number entry, because the app includes a touchpad, a keypad and a remote keyboard on supported connections.
It is not a substitute for the first power-on of every TV. Some televisions disable their network connection while fully off. In that situation, switch the TV on with its physical button first, then connect from the app.
Privacy and local control
TV discovery and remote commands happen on the local network. The app does not require an account. Pairing tokens and saved device addresses stay on the iPhone or iPad.
If you choose a photo or video, iOS gives the app access only to the selected item. It is previewed locally or sent through AirPlay; Remote Control IQ does not upload that media to its own server.
Connect a supported smart TV
- Check the platform
Confirm that the TV runs Roku, Samsung smart TV software, LG webOS, Android TV or Google TV.
- Use one local network
Put the TV and iPhone or iPad on the same Wi-Fi. Guest networks often isolate devices.
- Select the TV
Choose the TV from the scan results. If it does not appear, enter its IP address manually.
- Complete pairing
Follow the approval prompt or code shown by the TV, then try navigation and volume.
